In the beginning..

...thinking about Nigeria's political landscape...

  1. In Nigeria for some weeks now, it has all been bad news, particularly with the killings of innocent school children by BH and in the midst of all these, the President was busy celebrating the centenary celebrations. The question is, if there children are among those killed, would our political leaders celebrate the so-called centenary with such pomp and pageantry?
Again, the country has been witnessing shortage and scarcity of fuel for some days now, could it have been as a result of the probe against NNPC?

  2. Mr. Adegoroye wrote "only an insane government will be celebrating centenary while the youths, women, children and citizens are being killed daily in cold blood. Rather than mourn the dead, we want to celebrate one hundred years of a failed state ruled by a failed and cursed generation. This country (Nigeria) needs more than just prayers if the government will be unable, for just twenty four hours, to protect the citizens. Who says we don't have a war situation in Nigeria? Ohh!! Families of the pained and the dead should celebrate too? Why not invite them all to Abuja to come and dance and entertain you?. Shame has only one definition - shame!!".

These are deep and powerful words and the rage, frustration and despair that fuels them reflects the thinking of many.

Mr. Joseph Tobi Daniel drove home the point when he used his twitter handle to ask "what kind of leader focuses on a centenary celebration when the souls of slaughtered children are crying out for justice?"

  3. Being sincere and truthful are some of the attributes of a good leader. Mr. GEJ, yesterday in Davis, Switzerland, told the whole world that, there is now stable supply of electricity in Nigeria since NEPA has been privatised. Two weeks back, the same GEJ through his minister for Power, issued ultimatum to the privatised power companies that if electricity is not improved by June, 2014, their contracts of purchasing NEPA would be reviewed. If power is now stable in naija according to GEJ why issue the Discos and Gencos ultimatum in the first place? I am not saying Mr. GEJ is lying but we can all draw our various conclusions.

  4. Blogger Jailed For Criticizing Govt Policies
    --------------
Popular Vietnamese blogger and journalist Truong Duy Nhat has been jailed for two years on Tuesday for posting articles critical of the Communist government and leaders, his lawyer said.
Nhat's posts frequently dealt with highly sensitive political issues and offered alternative commentary to the state official press.
In a post in April 2013 Nhat called for Vietnam's top leaders to resign. He said it was "time for a new party general secretary and prime minister" to save the nation from economic and political woes.
He was taken into police custody in May that year and his blog was shut down.

  6. Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has invited Fortuna Dusseldorf defender Leon Balogun for the international friendly against Mexico on Wednesday after injury to captain Joseph Yobo.

The team's media officer Ben Alaiya confirmed to Goal that Yobo picked up an injury.

"Yobo is out of this friendly against Mexico for injury reasons and has been replaced by Fortuna Dusseldorf's Leon Balogun.

"He is already here with us in Atlanta," Alaiya said.

Dusseldorf confirmed through their official website that Balogun has been invited for the friendly.

"For the first time defender Leon Balogun was invited by the Nigerian Football Federation for the national team.

“On Wednesday, 5 March he will take part in a friendly match against Mexico. The match will be played in Atlanta, America," read the statement.

Balogun will join the list of three fresh invitees - Ramon Azeez, Imoh Ezekiel and Michael Uchebo handed a chance preparatory to the World Cup in Brazil.

Leon is born to a Nigerian father, Cesar Balogun and German mother, Orfa and eligible to play for both the Nigerian national team and Germany.

  8. The Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has again made changes to his cabinet as he sacked the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Bolaji Abdullahi.* The president on Wednesday ordered that one of the 11 newly sworn in ministers, Dr Tamuno Danagogo, take over from the sacked minister, Abdullahi. Eleven new ministers recently screened by the senate were sworn in by the president.

  11. The recent fuel scarcity in Nigeria brought out some deep thoughts within me. Everyday, we shout and blame Mr. GEJ for our fortunes and/or misfortunes in the country so far. No doubt, he Mr. GEJ, has his own shortcomings as a leader but for crying out loud, the petrol manager that adjusted the petrol pump not to read accurately so as to make extra illegal profit, the petrol attendants that are demanding extra #100 on each litre bought so as to make extra illegal money, the MAN O War men demanding #100 so that you can jump the queue, the unruly Danfo Drivers and Conductors entering through the exit gates; are these the creations of Mr. GEJ? For us to have the New Nigeria we dream of, we need to individually search our soul and be determined NEVER again to hurt our Nigeria, whether directly or indirectly. This is not impossible, it is doable and achievable, but it begins with you and me playing our part, in every little way we can.

  12. Sometimes towards the end of last month, The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, restrained the Lagos State Govt. from further collecting tolls on the newly constructed bridge linking Lekki to Ikoyi. But instead of abiding and complying with the valid judgement of the court, until it is upturned by a higher Court of competent jurisdiction, the LASG headed by Mr. Raji Fashola SAN, unilaterally decided NOT TO OBEY the judgement of the court. What an absurdity and impunity under a govt that we all thought was the role model of how and what leadership is all about.
Of course, I have also observed that, APC and Mr. Lai Mohammed, will gleefully commend the Nigerian Judiciary the moment any court judgement favours them but would turn around to criticize the same court if the judgement is against them and their interest.
The Nigerian Press and media houses are also not helping matters here. If what LASG is doing, by not obeying the judgement of the court, had been done by any PDP controlled state or by the Federal Govt, the press would have been making so much noise that, " heaven would have come down now" .
Indeed, it is a shame for this impunity to be going on in Lagos State, it obviously means that, we all have a long way to go in achieving A NEW NIGERIA.

  14. I am beginning to think that GOD is deliberately punishing Nigeria and Nigerians for some of our misdeeds because, if this is not the case, I am at a loss why Mr. GEJ who became the "acting president" and later the president by virtue of the protests and good will of fellow Nigerians would all of a sudden turn around to hurt that same people. The exalted position of the presidency of Nigeria has been made so petty by the actions and/or inactions of Mr. GEJ.

When SLS was made the Emir of Kano, I expected Mr. President to act like a statesman and congratulate him on his appointment as the Emir but what did he do, he first of all hired some jobless youths and urchins to start demonstrating and later sent policemen to seal the palace of the Emir. Haba!!!

Last night, the Adamawa House of Assembly, sent notice of impeachment to Gov. Nyako, rather than wait for the outcome of the whole process, whether it is going to succeed or not, the govt of Mr. GEJ has frozen all accounts belonging to the Adamawa state govt. This means that, all machinery of government and duties to the ordinary Adamawa citizens would be negatively hampered. Absurdity!!!

Presently, as I write, the APC is organising a rally to support the re-election of Gov. Fayemi in Ekiti State. Mr. GEJ, as the C in C, has ordered the closure of all roads leading to Ekiti, not only that, he has given instructions to the members of the Armed Forces to restrain all APC leaders from entering Ekiti State, such that, Gov. Amaechi was not allowed to enter Ekiti from Akure and in the same vein, Govs Oshiomole and Kwankaso were not allowed to board their planes from their respective states. The INEC laws gives room for political campaigns up to 24 hours before the election and as such APC has not run foul of the law but alas, see the pettiness and impunity from Mr. President.

I am really confused and embarrassed by all these from the man we all thought was a new breed in 2011.

It is now 66 days that, over 200 young girls have been missing from Chibok, rather than channel resources to rescue these young Nigerians, our president is busy fighting how to be re-elected in 2015. Haba!!!
